How do I describe this??? It is a gift set consisting of a painted wooden coaster and cover designed to make an invalid SMILE. You set a glass on the coaster and put on the cover to keep any nasties from flying in while you sleep.

I am fairly certain it dates to the 1920s, based on the graphics, and so maybe window screening was not in common use?? It was offered and made by RUST CRAFT, Boston U. S. A., so says the box. Aren't the graphic on the box WONDERFUL????

The coaster is 3 3/4" across and holds a glass with a base that is no more than 3 1/8"across. The cover or top is 3 1/4" across and fits a glass with a rim that is no more than 2 3/4" across. The background color of the base and top is light gray. It has a screen printed graphic of the funny clown's face in white with black outline and the red strokes of the hair are hand painted. The bright red knob handle, that you grab, forms the tongue of the clown, sticking out at you –just TOO funny! I am sure that this gift was gracefully received from the giver, but I doubt it was EVER used. The coaster has the merest trace of wear that MIGHT indicate something was put on it, but the cover is as fresh and clean as it was 90 years ago. I think that is the original tissue it was wrapped in, in the box. The box itself has NO damage. The paper has aged and started to brown slightly, but the printed graphics are sharp and the HAND PAINTED watercolor in the window scene is still lovely.

This is such a little treasure – where will you find another one???

INTERNATIONAL BUYERS – outside the United States -- shipping is NOT $77.00

-- I AM HAPPY TO SHIP ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, but international shipping costs vary so much for my vintage items, that I ask my potential international buyers to PLEASE convo me for costs PRIOR TO PURCHASE. The shipping price listed for EVERYWHERE ELSE is intentionally crazy high – PLEASE DO NOT PAY IT WITHOUT CONVOING ME FIRST. I will happily calculate your correct shipping price, based on your location and how you want it shipped . Please understand, I cannot get insurance for many international locations. I can usually only track it within the US. I have had VERY FEW lost items shipped overseas, but I cannot be responsible for it once it goes into the US Post. Overseas buyers may have to pay customs or duty upon receiving their item, but it is NOT my responsibility to pay it for you and I cannot build it into the shipping cost. I will put the exact selling price on the customs forms.

Please contact me if you have questions or think I have left something out.

Although I am new to Esty, I sold on ebay since 1997. I hope to find a home here.

I try to price my vintage items fairly – I want them to find appreciative new homes. If you LOVE an item, but think it is a little out of your range, convo me with an offer and I will see what I can do. I AM ALSO OPEN TO TRADES – WHADDA YA GOT???

I pack items VERY well and try to ship as inexpensively as is safely possible but I DO add a small bit for supplies. On things that have to go Priority Mail, I base my shipping cost on the West Coast, which makes a BIG difference on the heavier items. If you are closer, I encourage you to Convo me for an adjusted price. If you don't, and the shipping works out higher than it should, I try to add an extra little treasure from my stash to make it up to you.

I proudly use, mostly, recycled packing materials. If you have an issue with that, please convo me at purchase.
