This holy water font is stunning! It is clearly marked "Made in the U.S.A." and "Copyright 1934."

I think it was made in the 1940's, but I could be wrong and it could be from even earlier or made in the 1950's. It one of the items from my family, but I don't have exact information about it.

The crucifix on this font is very detailed and reverent. Behind the crucifix is a stained glass effect that is lovely. You really have to see it in person to appreciate the colors and the appearance better. The stained glass panel is a cream or light yellow with ripples of blue green in a variable pattern. Around the edges are arches like in an old church and details of roses and leaves.

The basin part of the font is made out of silver colored metal and has been used because you can see some mineral deposit build-up inside. This might clean off and is not noticeable if you just look at the item as it would be hung on a wall. I am guessing that the upper portion of this is made of very heavy duty plastic - so heavy duty that it looks like metal and glass. There is quite a lot of weight to this item for its size, so I will say that it feels nothing like plastic. The back has black cardboard and metal clips to hold it in place and a gold metal ring for hanging the item. The black cardboard is clean and looks like new.

It is approximately 11" tall, 5" wide, and the basin part is about 2 1/4" deep.

If you are unfamiliar with holy water fonts, they are found in Catholic churches and hold water that has been blessed. Parishioners dip their fingers in the water and bless themselves by making the sign of the cross. Many Catholic families also had holy water fonts in their home, sometimes in each room.

There is a bit of damage on this item and that is reflected in how I set the price. If you look at the last picture, you will see there is a crack in the left side of the outer frame. I know close up pictures make things look large, but it is barely noticeable, no more than 1/4" in length and creates very little gap in the item. I didn't notice this until I was looking at it thoroughly. If you like it as it is, the item is wonderful. It is sturdy and structurally sound. Otherwise, it could easily be filled in or covered up with small similarly colored jewels or silver colored flowers, etc. and it would look wonderful that way, too. Personally, I would leave it like it is because it is beautiful.

Please read my store policies and ask if there are any questions. This item will be carefully boxed before being shipped to you.

It is difficult to estimate shipping charges. In the event that shipping charges vary from what I anticipate, I am happy to refund the excess charge if it is $1.50 or more over the actual cost. I do that through PayPal. Thank you for understanding. Costs vary according to destination and I try to keep the price as economical as I can for you.
