Tom “Tank” Cromwell had been a lineman for the Salt River Project for going on five years and all during that time he’d managed to keep his dirty little secret. That was until September 25th, 1966 when his SRP buddies found him out. Tank had learned early on that when he was working in the blazing Phoenix sun, he’d better stay hydrated. That is why he bought himself a big five gallon Arctic Boy cooler to keep his favorite drink in. The other guys thought it a little odd that he wouldn’t let anyone else drink out of it but then when you work with electricity all day, you develop little quirks. Then on that fateful day back in ’66 an unknowing rookie took a sip out of Tank's cooler.

“Hey Tank, this cooler is full of grape Kool-Aid. Is that what you drink all the time?” The rookie yelled up to Tank who was working up on a power pole.

Before Tank could climb down the pole, the rest of the crew had gathered around Tank’s cooler and were tasting the purple colored elixir. When Tank reached the group, he grabbed the cooler and held it tightly to his chest.

“Oh yeah! I like grape Kool-Aid, ever since I was a kid. Anybody got a problem with that?” Tank growled.

Apparently nobody had a problem with the 6’ 3”, 285 lb Tank’s choice of beverages and not another word was said about it.

Here's a super cool Arctic Boy galvanized steel cooler perfect for your next retro-themed outdoor entertaining event or simply displayed in a lodge or farmhouse chic decor. Use it as a drink dispenser or fill with ice and your favorite beverage cans or bottles either way this quality USA made cooler will keep things "arctic" cold. It has a 5 gallon capacity and features all galvanized steel construction with a steel spigot. It stands 21" tall with the lid on and is 13" in diameter and weighs over 11 lbs.

This cooler is in good vintage condition. The exterior is pretty clean and the galvanized steel has a nice aged patina to it. There are a few dents and dings and scuffs from use. The interior has some light water stains. We filled it and tested for leaks--the cooler itself is leak-free but as with many coolers the spigot does drip a small amount. The lid fits tightly.
