A 20in. diameter Graphic Project Globe by A.J. Nystrom & Co.

Project globes were used in an instructional setting testing the geographical mettle of students or secondly in the use of higher mathmatics, spherical geometry and trigonometry. It was the utilization of these higher mathmatics that led to Military and Aviation applications. A massive 20 inches in diameter this globe graphically illustrates only land masses in a light brown and in a paint finish (slated) designed to used with a soft chalk. With a stainless steel semi-meridian the chalk can be placed anywhere next to the meridian, spin the globe to draw latitude lines or follow the meridian to draw longitude lines.

AJ. Nystrom founded his company in 1903 in Chicago, Ill. Nystrom Co. became well known for their graphic globes including the slate globe which advertised "The actual use of the chalk or slate pencil by pupils on the globe takes advantage of the strong memory value of muscular action." It was this theory, the hands on approach, that translated to the Graphic Project Globe and other markable products produced by Nystrom.

The globe is in very good condition...no dents but some areas of rubbing with loss. The metal base has the original sticker and is in very good condition with some minor corrosion.

This particular model has a area in the base that allows the globe to be wall mounted. A spectacular globe that makes a graphic architectual statement.
