Jane Austen decided to write a book about a protagonist whom only she could like; Emma Woodhouse. Emma is an indulged only child, and her attempts at matchmaking amongst those she knows are doomed to failure. The failures lead to disappointment and misunderstandings, but after a period of reflection and soul searching Emma gains greater self knowledge, leading to her own romantic happiness. This edition was published in 1948 and has an inscription in the front which looks like O P Boughton May 1949, in ink.

All vintage books are sold as is. Vintage books are not pristine new, they have their own smell and excitement on opening. They often contain messages inscribed on the flyleaf, lists, or bookmarks from previous owners (I leave these in for you to find, as I have done, and wonder about the person who left it there). Feel free to request additional information and/or photos. If you require tracking or insurance please mail me before ordering.

Thank you for stopping by BeauBazaar, hope to see you again.
