The 3floridagirls have to admit they're not overly fond of alligators - sliding down the banks of our favorite swimming holes and watching us from a distance with their shifty eyes, crossing the road while we stop the car and wait for them, gliding silently down the river as we canoe past.

But, all that aside, we just can't help loving this little gator - wrapped around a vintage Silver Springs ashtray, no doubt brought home years ago from the family's summer vacation to Florida and lovingly displayed on the living room coffee table for all to admire. With that benevolent smile, the open mouth begging you to come just a little closer, the Cleopatra eye-liner, and those wonderful 1940s barkcloth colors of green, yellow and brown - what's not to love?

Fill it with olives at your next cocktail party or set it out for your smoking guests, use it to hold your earrings and other jewelry or as a soap dish - the possibilities are endless. Measures 6 1/2 inches long by 5 inches deep. In wonderful condition with just the teensiest bit of paint loss on one of the gator's brown scales (see photo #4). Could easily be touched up with a brown marker and a dab of clear nail polish.
