French late 1800s – very early 1900s wall mounted crucifix and holy water font set atop a red velveteen backing, which features a wood grain texture. The Christ is affixed to a silver-colored cross, finely decorated with etchings. The water font is most likely made of spelter* and is embellished by leaf scrolls. This set measures about 12” tall and 6½” at its widest.

Photos speak from themselves. Some wear can be found on the velvet backing around the edges, but this lovely piece remains in excellent condition considering its old age, with no break or crackling to be reported.

*(Spelter, also known as white bronze, is an alloy made of pewter or lead, and antimony. Many sculptors had their work cast in spelter at a time when bronze was very expensive and copper mainly used for ammunition.)
