GENERAL INFORMATION:

Hibiscus Flowers, or Hibiscus sabdariffa, is also known as red sorrel, African Mallow, Indian Sorrel, Jamaica Sorrel, Jamaica Tea Flower, and Roselle.

There are over 220 varieties of the Genus Hibiscus. It grows in most in tropical areas around the world, but certain hardy perennials can live anywhere, being able to weather freezing conditions and blooming the very next year.

FOLKLORE / FOOD / FUN FACTS:

--Hibiscus flowers are the main ingredient in wonderfully refreshing teas made around the world, especially in Mexico, Latin America, and North Africa.

--Known as Agua de Jamaica, or simply Jamaica in Mexico, this tea is usually served chilled with copious amounts of sugar to sweeten the natural tartness of the hibiscus.

--Recently it has been added to many ready made teas due to its high levels of anti-oxidants, and has even become the main ingredient in certain sodas.

--It can be used as a natural dye, and is incorporated in several cosmetics.

MYSTIC / MAGIC / CRAFT USE:

--A Sun plant, but its funnel shape also associates it with Venus.

--This magic herb is used for divination, clairvoyance, lucid dreams, or reaching higher planes.

--For attracting love and lust. Carry in a sachet, infuse in oil, or burn as incense to attract love.

--For love and passion rituals, it can be made into a tea, burned as an incense, or used as an altar potpourri.

--Hibiscus flowers aid divination when placed in a wooden bowl containing water, and the result is scryed.
