Temari balls were first made over 500 years ago in Japan. They were used as special gifts and for decoration as well as unique toys. I became facinated with them and had to make one...two... then many. I have hand crafted each one using time consuming meathods of threading and other various decorative stitchery and some are even beaded. This one has a three wrap design. The colored ribbon design was not made with a single ribbon but indevidual tiny threads wraped side by side until the desired width was attained. The work is very soothing and theraputic for me as the ball is turning in my hands and the threads are woven around and through the ball.

They can be displayed in groups in bowls on trays or by themselves simply sitting on a shelf. This craft is so different I believe it would be impossible to have one go unnoticed in your home. The colors combinations are endless and the designs are varied and so totally different. I have begun to make up my own, rather untraditional designs, and am finding this alot of fun.

They are very light weight, about 8 oz and the size is aprox. 4 inches in diameter
