Buddhist FOO DOG Incense Burner RITUAL Religious Item Temple Guardian Found Object Metal Alloy Age Unknown.

One of my all time fave's in my Found Object collection I am now ready to let him go to a good home only! This is a Chinese Foo Dog, a Guardian of the Temple. This particular one is made from a metal mix of alloys I am not sure which.

It was found by myself, in 1979 in Calgary Alberta, Canada in the then run down portion of the city known as the S.W. at this time many of the homes were boarded up and derelict. There was a large corner house which had served at one time as a Buddhist Temple and in the back of this lay a trash heap in which I found this guy.

It is actually an incense burner. The entire head comes off exposing a shallow well beneath in which aromatic balls were burned. I have absolutely no idea how old this guy is but he was obviously well used - even by the time I had found him!

He has some damage to his head which though the mouth has an opening to let the smoke out, obviously got too hot and actually melted a hole in the left side. A fortunate thing really as without this extra escape route, he really does get very very hot!

There is metal wear, scratches and such, which is honestly won and commensurate with age. This is generally referred to as patina. I leave the patina on many of these things as I never know which is best to clean and which is best to leave alone!

What else can I say about this except that it is a very, very hip item worthy of devotion and can only serve to liven up any decor he is added to! He measures 5" long by 4" tall and 2" wide. Made from metals, he weighs in at a respectful 412 grams. His colour is a rich toned burnished silver which verges on golden from place to place.

***I have tested and there is ZERO actual silver OR gold content in this item***
