Turquoise with iron trapped on the reverse.

1 5/8 x 1 1/4 across the dome polished face x 5/8th inches thick

Face Polished 150 year old Lake Michigan beach/ slag glass pebble in turquoise (the reverse is natural).
This beauty was created during the iron smelting process of the mid 19th century. The main impurity in the raw iron was silica (glass). The raw iron was melted using the intense heat of a hardwood fired blast furnace. The colorful glass, or slag as it was known, floated to the top and was skimmed off and discarded in the big lake. They have tumbled in the waves for over a century, smoothing their rough edges and providing a thrill for sharp eyed beach-combers.
