Long Billed Marsh Wrens- 1897 Antique Colorized Bird Photograph Illustration

The Marsh Wren is a secretive bird and tends to remain well hidden, even when defending its territory. The male takes several mates, each of which builds its own nest. The male also builds up to half a dozen "fake" nests, which are often incomplete and used as a roost. These "fake" nests may be used to fool would be predators.

Amazing color and beautiful composition make this antique representation a stand out. This nicely preserved set includes the color illustration and an additional page from the book that describes the bird.

These pages are the real thing- not photo copies or digital files. They were rescued from a very damaged book- "Birds- Illustrated By Color Photography, Vol. I from 1897. The book had been separated from it's binding , a few pages were ripped and some were missing, but those that remain are amazing examples of colorized photography illustration art in the 1890s.

The pages are yellowed from age, but only show slight wear and smudging, unless noted. Each page measures 7" X 9.5", and includes the full page, not just what was cut from the binding. This gives you a little extra when matting. And this is completely worthy of framing! These items will come shipped encased in a heavier poster board for protection.
