this item came with a piece of paper describing it as:
"This item is made from extinct American Chestnut. Due to a blight in the early 1900's these tree had all disappeared from the Blue Ridge by 1929. Chestnut is rot resistant and was used for anything meant to last. This item was made from a discarded piece of a rail fence that guarded the Blue Ridge Parkway!"

i no longer have the piece of paper with it. the american chestnut is making a comeback due to the american chestnut foundation. you can read more about their work here:

this can be used as a business card holder, a prop for holding pictures or flyers. i was going to use this at shows, but never got around to using it. great for organic, earthy, primitive, or vintage table displays.

i don't know if the initials and date on the back are an artist signature or not. it is on the back, upside down, so i am really not sure! weird place to put a signature. not sure if this was originally part of the fencing, or is a new addition. i also do not know if this refers to 1907 or 2007.

measures 2.625 x 4 x 2.625 inches. will fit a standard sized business card.

ships priority within the USA only. it is untreated wood, and is not allowed to be shipped to many countries.
