Vintage 1979 Circus Circus Gaming Token / Casino Chip.

Circus Circus was one of the earlier casinos/hotels on the strip, and this was one of the first nickel alloy silver-dollar sized tokens issued. Now relatively common, they were a novelty at first, since the Eisenhower dollar was last struck in 1978, meaning that even casinos that had used regular dollar coins instead of tokens in their $1 slot machines in 1979 had to get their own tokens made as the supply of Eisenhower dollars dwindled.

Of course, many tokens get taken home as souvenirs, thus providing casinos with another source of revenue. As such, it is now not unusual to see 50c or even 25c casino tokens.
