The first stamp that the USPS issued with the 25-cent rate was the South Carolina Statehood stamp on May 23, 1988. In 1788 South Carolina was the eight state to ratify the Constitution.

Handsomely displayed in a gold-toned frame, this stamp features the palmetto and sea grass on a beach. Two additional palmetto trees, South Carolina's state tree, are shown in the background.
