Positively my favorite shade of blue. I'd call it "mediteranean blue" for it's cool, deep tones of blue and green...a beautiful specimen!

A reversible floating bezel from recycled 14k gold, holds a 1 1/2” inch long rose-cut blue Tourmaline gemstone.

A few years back I was fortunate enough to travel with my husband to the Cinque Terre Coast in North Western Italy. From our hotel room we had the most exquisite views of the Laguarian Sea. Shortly after we returned home, I went to a gem show and was stopped in my tracks when I saw this stunning tourmaline that so perfectly reminded me of that beautiful body of water we hiked along daily in our travels.
Tourmaline is one of my most favorite gemstones because of it's vast array of colors. Here is some fascinating history and lore about the Tourmaline gemstone...

The name tourmaline comes from the Singhalese (Sri Lanka) words 'tura mali'. In translation, this means something like 'stone with mixed colors', referring to the colour spectrum of this gemstone, which outdoes that of all other precious stones.

According to an old Egyptian legend, the tourmaline, on its long journey up from the centre of the Earth, passed over a rainbow. In doing so, it assumed all the colors of the rainbow. And that is why it is still referred to as the 'gemstone of the rainbow' today.

Tourmaline is believed to protect the wearer against dangers and misfortune. Green tourmaline promotes endurance in sports. (Although I do not recommend wearing this necklace while working out- ya don't want to be "that girl" ;) It is a powerful third eye chakra crystal, as well a potent throat chakra stone, that aids improved communication abilities.

*Natural Deep blue tourmaline gems are quite rare and valuable. :)

A mixed 14k yellow and white gold with contrasting blackened silver adjustable chains are "stitched" together with a few platinum diamond rondell beads.

The chain is 22", perfect for layering or a single stunning statement piece.
