The blank card has a photograph on the front of one of my watercolors, "Texas Prison Rodeo." While doing a commission of paintings depicting scenes of Huntsville, Texas, I had the opportunity of visiting the prison archives and looking through file cabinets full of vintage photographs. I selected several to use for source material for a large watercolor that depicted the Texas Prison Rodeo, a popular event in the prison town of Huntsville, until the early 1980's when it was discontinued. Some say the rodeo came to an end because the venue wasn't safe; others say the prison officials felt the prisoners were having too much fun. Whatever the real story is, the prison rodeo is remembered by many as a particularly rough and rowdy event -- the prisoners had nothing to lose. This image is a little piece of history! The card of course comes with an envelope, and is shipped in a protective sleeve.
