Zuni Inlay Pin - Songbirds Brooch - Pawn Piece - Jack Mahkee

Here's a very unique piece that you aren't likely to see again. Native American artists often used the same designs and themes over and over, but I have never seen a set of lovebirds before. This pin is exquisitely hand made of natural stones. The wings and tails are carved, and the wings are set on top of the body for a 3D effect. Note the silver bird feet curved over the "branch". No hallmarks, as was customary before 1980.

An almost identical pin is shown in the new "American Indian Jewelry" book by Gregory Schaaf. It is signed by Zuni artist Jack Mahkee (1931-2013). This piece would have been made before he began signing his work. A small single songbird ring by this artist is listed on a gallery site for $295.

Measures 1 3/4" high and 1 3/4 wide. Weighs 13.6 grams, tested sterling.

Excellent condition. Has some age patina, has not been cleaned or polished. Stones are secure without chips or cracks.

Was $299. DISCOUNTS! Contact me BEFORE PURCHASING if you are interested in a discount of 10% for payment by US personal check, USPS money order. No discounts once purchase is made!
