'Perfect Summer' is old, really old. This teal blue-green glass fishing float is so old it has journeyed though, witnessed, celebrated, and likely struggled through more summers than you or I can count, yet it glows with its own courageous, endearing 'perfection' - as if nothing matters any longer but the 'Perfect Summer'.

How can a simple antique glass fishing float provide such profound inspiration? One area of Ayurvedic study tells how history is recorded in objects at the molecular level. This gives collectors a clue as to why these old 'gems' of the sea arts emanate a history and charm that draws the mind to the glass float, on par with their physical beauty.

This delightful 3-piece molded glass fishing float represents my all time favorite genre or type of float. The superior construction and ingenious creation of the hand-whittled wooden molds, into which the glass was poured, are cause for celebration. The hand made whittle marks leave reverse 'dappling' on the surfaces of the glass that sparkle endlessly in bright or low light.

Imagine such care and craftsmanship going into a 'tool' to be used for hard work at sea! What a treasure! Everyone who collects or develops an eye for old glass fishing floats should have at least a few of the 3-piece glass molded floats. One will never tire of these. Perfect Summer measures 3-1/2" diameter or 10-1/2" in circumference - 'baseball' size is the term often used by collectors for easy reference to size.

The glass float shows normal wear from its many decades of service at sea. Each side of the southern hemisphere of Perfect Summer shows a clear mark in the form of 'Ii'. These particular marks, often called 'hash' marks, in the form of simple Roman numerals such as I, II, III, IV, were used primarily as a means of matching the lower two halves in the process of production. Other more obscure marks were occasionally used.

Perfect Summer is a 2nd generation (Post-WW II) Korean or Japanese fishing float. The seal 'button' on this three-piece float shows the typical 'umbilical' type surround indentation near the outermost edge of the seal. The seals are mostly uniform and nicely crafted in the 2nd generation of 3-pc molded floats. This one has survived hard work and decades of service in rough seas and came through nearly unscathed. It is indeed in terrific condition and shows one insignificant, small grazed spot or nick on its entire surround edge. Unfortunately it doesn't show in photo #1, being on the farthest area of the seal's edge. Trust it's no big deal. This is a gorgeous seal with texturing in its center!

Notice Perfect Summer posing with another glass float 'buddy' in photos #3 and #5. Both are 3-piece molded Japanese or Korean floats, similar in their construction. The contrast in coloration is stunning. The 'brown' float is called 'Volcanic Ember' and is not part of this sale. This is a rare color with a splash of olive to the dark brown embers of the float. The two make my heart skip a beat and I couldn't help but see how they'd photo together. More may be seen of 'Volcanic Ember' in the link below, if you wish:

Perfect Summer will bring joy throughout the year, no matter the season, no matter the celebration, no matter the blues. I hope each time you see it, you'll feel inner peace and inspiration to move forward with the 'waves' of life!
