This handwoven rag rug comes from the Midwest and is a wonderful combination of thrift and artistry. It was never used and has been in storage for decades. The colors are true and bright, the weave is strong and intact, and it is clean as can be.

These rugs were woven on home looms - my great-grandmother had one - made of leftover fabric, rags and worn-out clothing. I can't be certain without taking the rug apart (which obviously isn't an option), but it looks as if much of the fabric in the rug is feedsack. It's very well made, and reflects an artistic sensibility, with lovely color combinations and symmetrical stripes. The weave thread is black. The last photo is best as an indication of size and overall design; the colors seem a little darker to me than shown.

This rug (and others that I'll be listing) was found in Ohio, near the Indiana-Michigan borders.

Size is 29 inches wide and 53 inches long, with an additional 2 1/2 inches of fringe on each end. Shipping weight is 4 pounds.

The shipping price listed is for the West Coast and will be less the closer you are to where I live, in New York. I'll refund any shipping overcharge.

Thanks for looking!
