This French-style support spindle weighs 1 1/8 ounces, and is 11 3/8" long. I make these on our mini-lathe, and they're finished with Danish oil and friction polish on the lathe. This is made from our own walnut wood from our NE Washington State farm in the USA, and it has a 10+ second spin with a single "flick" of your spinning hand - it's a smooth spinner, and relatively fast, but this design doesn't produce the high spinning speeds of, for example, the Tibetan-style spindles. The shaft has minimal grooving at the tip, in case you like to use a half-hitch, but the minimal depth of the grooves allows for traditional spinning styles, as well, where the yarn is allowed to flip off of the spindle's tip. The indentation, or "cap" at the top of the shaft, allows for this spindle to be used as a drop spindle, as well. Although it looks "chunky" in the photo, the widest part of the shaft, just above the whorl, is 3/4," and it tapers to just under 3/8" below the "cap," then it tapers to 1/8" at the upper tip.

All spindles are made and stored in a smoke-free environment. 100% guarantee!
