Here we have a great example of American coin silver flatware.

Coin silver refers to silverware produced in America from early colonial times to just after the Civil War. Items of coin silver produced during this time period are over ninety percent pure silver and were made from European silver coins.

This teaspoon is marked on the handle Rankin (likely the family that purchased an entire set, and 1854 on the reverse.

It is in pretty good shape considering its age. It does have a couple of very small dings, but otherwise it's fantastic.
