This tea cup is absolutely a collectible and truly unique. Made between 1905 and 1932, this 80 to 100 Year Old Tea set was made in Eastern Germany and has survived not one, but two World Wars. In addition, the tea cup journeyed through the DDR Era in Eastern Germany, when the Soviets occupied the Eastern half of Germany and Berlin after World War II.

In addition to the mountains of history this little cup has seen, the design of the cup itself makes it truly special. Both the cup and the matching plate have been made with a hexagonal theme, and what that means is that as you see with the base of the cup and where it meets the plate, is a small hexagon. Not only is the plate also hexa- or octa-gonal, but the cup itself, while round at the top, tapers into a hexagon at the bottom. Also extremely rare and beautiful is the handle of this cup, painted with gold, which is very delicate and ornate, typical for the early 1900s.

The cup is steeped in history, and one additional thing to note is that the beautiful orange trim that's been hand-painted on the rim and edges, has been added later than the original date of the cup. Originally, we can see that the cup had a gold top rim (it's almost invisible now), and the soft raised designs around the edges of both the plate and the cup appear to be a lace-pattern. Since then the handle has been restored with new gold paint and the orange details have been added.

This cup would make an exceptional addition to any collector or a beautiful and unique addition to a lovely tea set.

The cup measures 3 3/4" across and the plate measures 5 3/4".

Please Note: There is one small chip close to the handle by the rim of the cup (see photo 2), but it is virtually invisible. There are no hairlines, cracks or other damages. The cup and the plate are in extremely good condition for their age.
