Here's another one for those of your who like smaller rings. Small, but not dainty.

This coin is a tiny chunk of weathered bronze--great verdegris patina--which was struck sometime in the 1700s in India, during the Moghul Empire. I wanted to create a setting for it that looked just as rugged, ancient, and mysterious as the coin itself. This is quite a journey when your starting point is bright, shiny new silver, but I enjoy it immensely.

All of the silver was worked entirely by hand. I have a very low-tech studio, and try to do things as simply as possible. The silver surfaces were hammered on all sides upon old railroad track from the abandoned mines of Madrid, New Mexico, which is not far from here. The coin's bezel is slightly offset from the backplate, which in turn was soldered to the shank at an angle, furthering the primitive look and feel.

A deep, dark, rich patina was created through repeated immersions and buffings. You can see tool marks and scratches which have been left in the surface, a detail that I love. A a finish, I gave the entire ring a coating of Renaissance Wax to help preserve the beautiful tones.

So this is a great pinky ring, or perfect for someone with smaller fingers, or for someone who loves primitive jewelry but not huge pieces. It's also extremely sturdy!

A talisman of long-ago times...

Size: Ring size 5 1/2. The bezel measures 16mm x 14mm and the coin is 6mm tall.

Care: Rinse in cool water to clean. Don't use soap or scrub. Blot dry with a soft cloth.

Found will arrive beautifully giftwrapped in a hand-decorated recycled pillow box, along with a handwritten description.
