Antique Japanese Inro - Gold Lacquer with MOP and Coral Inlay - 4 Chambered Pill Case
Pills and potions galore can be carried in this amazing little device.
The Japanese Inro.
Often carried by men- and attached to their sash...
they were able to carry pills and medicines... and other smalls...

This piece is a spectacular little work of art!

A stacked row of little chambers... 4 in total.
Each is strung along the sides on a gold cord...
Made of Lacquered wood - or an early composite like papier mache'.
Gold Gilded lacquer overall- with a heavily sculpted deeply detailed design.
Inlaid with tiny Red and White Coral Flowers... and MOP as well.

The scene: small birds perched on and flying about a Cherry Tree branch.
Several Cherry blossoms are inlaid Coral...
both Red and White.
Mother of Pearl as well.
Barely discernible tiny tiny flecks of MOP are formed into little fan shapes at the top and bottom.

Four Chambers..
and a lid...
and all are strung on a woven silken cord of gold.

The whole piece measures:
2" tall... and 2.5" wide.

Condition: there is one small bit of worn or chipped off lacquer at one edge at the top. see pic.
Considering the age of the piece.. this is relatively minor.
No cracks or scratches noted.

Antique: vintage 1900's or earlier.
