Promise rings can mean any number of things. Most people assume they are just a baby-step toward marriage. This is not true in all cases. In this day and age, promise rings are popular among typically the youth making a promise to another. Not only can they be given by men, but they can be given by women as well.

Promises that are made can mean:

I will be faithful
I will return
I will keep a specific promise
I love you
I have intentions to marry you
I promise to be best friends
I will always be there for you
I will save myself for you
I promise to stay away from a vice
I promise to replace this ring with a larger stone when I can afford it
I promise to follow a certain religion
or it can even mean I promise to obtain a goal for myself.

The main promise rings are pre-engagement promise rings, purity rings, friendship promise rings, and religious promise rings. Pre-engagement rings are used when surely two people want to get engaged in the near future. These types of rings symbolize an overwhelming belief that two people want to spend the rest of their lives together in the near future. Pre-engagement rings are very common and similar to an engagement ring, but not quite as final.

Purity rings are typically given by parents to their children, with the promise to abstain from sexual activities until marriage.

Friendship promise rings represent a bond between two great friends. These rings can just be given to show closeness, and they are especially given when the friends are separated by distance. There is no matrimonial meaning behind the friendship ring.

As for religious promise rings, they represent a commitment to a particular saint or religion and their teachings. To enhance these rings, you may add a symbol or image of the saint that you worship. The most important part of giving a promise ring is explaining why you are giving it or your intentions by giving it. Most people do not understand exactly what they are. So, by giving someone a promise ring, they may mistake it for an engagement ring. In order to avoid such confusion, give a note along with the ring or have a conversation about why you’re giving it. By doing this, not only are you avoiding confusion, you are enhancing the meaning of the ring for both parties. Another way to amplify the value of this ring for a person is to include a birth stone in the ring. It has been believed that a birth stone brings good health and fortune to that person. Also, keep in mind that there are not any formal rules that go along with promise rings.

There are a few key features of cubic zirconia which distinguish it from diamond, some observable only under the microscope or loupe, for example:
Dispersion: With a dispersive power greater than diamond (0.060 vs. 0.044) the more prismatic fire of cubic zirconia can be seen by even an untrained eye.
Specific gravity: a cubic zirconia will weigh about 1.7 times more than a diamond of the same size.
Flaws: Contemporary production of cubic zirconia is virtually flawless, whereas most diamonds have some sort of defect, be it a feather, included crystal, or perhaps a remnant of an original crystal face.
Color (or more precisely, the lack thereof): Only the rarest of diamonds are truly colorless, most having a tinge of yellow or brown to some extent. By comparison, cubic zirconia can be made in most cases entirely colorless: equivalent to a perfect "D" on diamond's color grading scale.
Thermal conductivity: Cubic zirconias are thermal insulators while diamonds are among the most efficient thermal conductors, exceeding copper. This makes telling the difference between diamond and cubic zirconia quite easy for those with the right instruments.
