Large, rare, natural untreated color, raspberry bronze Kasumi type freshwater pearl solitaire pendant set in solid 14kt yellow gold - not plated.

18" solid 14kt yellow rope chain with spring ring clasp is included.

This pearl most closely resembles what are known as Japanese Kasumi pearls, which are still produced in very small quantities and are exceptionally rare. There were only 2 or 3 pearl farms in Japan still producing these pearls. While this pearl was grown in China, it is identical in character to a Kasumi pearl. As far as I can tell Kasumi pearls generally run between $125.00 to $150.00 (or more) per pearl wholesale and unset! The last matched pair I saw, a gorgeous type of purple, was offered at $400.00. Pearl nomenclature is a bit fluid, but I am calling this a "Kasumi type pearl" due to its origin - just so there is no confusion. It is a bit like the champagne issue. Only the French producers in the Champagne region of France are allowed to call their product champagne. Everybody else must call their product something else. this pearl is for all practical purposes indistinguishable from a Japanese Kasumi. It is a very deep and rare color, even among the Japanese Kasumi pearls.

Both the Japanese and Chinese Kasumi pearls, as well as Nucleated pearls, typically show folds, dimples, ripples and voids. These are not considered flaws, but are sought after for their visual interest and the color play that results.I have rated this one AAA for its rarity, luster, color, size and character.

The different colors displayed across the surface of the pearl are entirely natural. The oysters that produce these pearls lay down different semi-transparent colors in spill patterns. Depending on the pearl, some layers will be white, some lavender, some silver, some gold, some a very surprising sort of lime green, some may even be mostly clear. Not all these colors are present in all the Kasumi pearls. The layers are not uniform and may leave gaps here and there that reveal previous color levels. They have a natural topography, much like a wild, untouched landscape, which is part of their undeniable appeal.

AAA grade; large size; rare natural untreated color; Kasumi gently ripples skin; nice drop shape; very high luster, multiple overtones including purple, raspberry, and dove gray; with an iridescent metallic orient . While overtones and are practically identical concepts, I have split them here to distinguish the color from the metallic aspect. Considered flawless.

22.5mm or about 7/8" in overall length. That is just a bit less than the diameter of a US quarter coin.

3.5g or .12oz in weight. Typically a US penny coin will weigh in at .08oz. So about 1 1/2 US pennies in weight.

The bail is quite roomy and will accommodate at lease a 2mm wide chain.

All occasion wear. I think that the color will act, like chocolate, as a neutral. It should flatter most skin, hair and eye colors. Kama will go with many more clothing colors than you might at first expect. For anyone over the age of 21, I should think. Sophisticated, rare, and fascinating.
