SUBJECT: This wonderful unused antique real picture postcard (RPPC) was printed on Cyko photo paper sometime between 1903 and 1905 per the photo paper mark and carries an embossed stamp naming the photographer, Max Sommerfeld. It features a woman dressed in white smiling and styling in her high-heeled boots on a tolerant, if weary, horse while her indulgent boyfriend stands by. A fine example of one of my favorite vintage horse genres, City Woman Can't Resist Country Horse.

HORSE NOTES: This resigned white mare is wearing an interesting bridle. Check the super zoom scan to look at the decorations at the junction of the brow band and throat latch. Flowers? Seashells? The strap hanging down behind her ears and looped under the throat latch is the overcheck, or bearing rein, making her a driving horse who was separated from her rig for the spontaneous portrait.

ITEM DETAILS: This antique 1900s real picture postcard (RPPC) measures 3.5 x 5.5 inches and is in very good condition, free of creases, bends or tears, with minor age toning and light scuff marks on the back.

SHIPPING & HANDLING: Paper items are wrapped with care in acid-free sleeves, placed between sheets of cardboard and shipped in secure packaging within two business days of purchase.

VINTAGE: All vintage and antique items have unique histories and are offered for sale in exactly the condition they were found, sold “AS IS.”
