Something sweet about this antique frosted glass fishing float. It reminds me of old fashioned cotton candy at the fall fair or whipped cream clouds in a celestial light blue sky. Yet the feel of this collectible glass fishing float in the palm of the hand is a big surprise - due to the marvelous heavy weight and the silky feeling of the glass!

'Frosting' occurs when nature takes over and wind, sand and wave action 'sand-blasts' an old glass fishing float. I like to think of those elements as 'nature's paintbrush - with the 'canvas' being the glass! This beautiful piece is not frosted to absolute perfection, but close enough to refer to it as 'all over frosted'. There are a few areas that are partially 'see through' where perhaps an old net prevented total sand-blasting. And the top is a bit translucent, a bit like a swirling 'window' into space. It is believed by experts that only about one in 300 glass fishing floats are 'all over' frosted!

The top (technically the 'bottom' where the glass blowing began, but the 'top' as the float normally sits) shows a beautiful, intricate pattern of many swirls - so graceful they resemble calligraphy and are 'embossed' as if 'lifted' from within the surface glass. This graceful vortex of swirling can be felt with a finger tip. My attempts to capture this calligraphic 'vortex' of swirling was not successful! The frosting and reflections of light, bouncing off the frosting, along with the complexities of the heavy, thick antique glass simply took over. Trust the swirling on top is outstanding.

This wonderful antique glass fishing float measures 3" diameter or 9-11/16" in circumference. In honor of its 'pearlescence' (I think I just made up a word), this glass float has been named 'Pacific Pearl'. The delicate light aqua blue reminds of heaven. It changes continually with the light so that it almost feels 'alive'. The interior glass is loaded with bubbling, veiled by nature's frosting.

The seal 'button' is signature. There's something ancient and artifact like about it. Notice how the interior bubble of glass, or 'pearl', opposite the 'eye' in center of the seal is so reflective, the light can be seen bouncing in photo #3. Again the light bounces to the southern end in photo #1 and photo #4.

The seal is primarily rounded in shape with a little 'tag' to the left - note the two photos of the seal (#1 and #3). The surround edges are in terrific condition showing no chips, no nicks. I feel a small area of light grazing on one side of the 'tag'. It is smoothed over by now, much like sea glass becomes smooth as it erodes with time, and the elements pounding away at it - as nature's slow, almost invisible art work progresses - perhaps never ending......
