♛The Details

Insanely beautiful ca. early 1940s dress in crepe rayon of deepest midnight blue with turquoise and white deco bubble print. The fabric is so lovely, silky and cold to the touch. Pointy collar, self fabric buttons to waist. The skirt is amazing, a simple column with an over-panel that splits at the back of the dress and drapes gracefully. I have lightened some of the photos to display design details; the dress is not faded in person.

Fastens up one side with one of the early metal zippers with bell-shaped pull, and closes with the buttons down front of bodice. Designer label is Petite Casuals of California.

Bargain-priced because though lovely, it's AS-IS. See condition report below.

All accessories (belts, jewelry, crinolines, pins, etc.) are for style inspiration only unless indicated.

♛The Measurements

About a modern size XS; it does have allowances and darts throughout the bodice, so could potentially be altered to be larger
Bust (underarm to underarm, measured flat then doubled): 34", snug 36"
Waist: snug 24"
Hips: 36", snug 38"
Shoulder measured down to waist area: about 15 1/2"
Waist to hem: 30"

♛The Condition

Good/Fair vintage shape. This dress is wearable and shows very well, with clean and unfaded fabric. It does have assorted small flaws, so it's not for the perfectionist. The back of one sleeve near shoulder has a grain-of-sand sized tiny hole and there is a second small hole (pencil lead sized) near the underarm. Both holes have been mended and reinforced from behind, so they are not easy to find. The back of the bodice has 2-3 tiny picks to the fabric, and there are 7-8 more tiny picks and needle holes running about 2" above hemline where it appears the hem was once placed (you could hem to make these disappear again, but they're in an obscure area where nobody looks). Finally, the dress has a 7/8" x 3/8" cleverly mended area located on the lower skirt. This does not jump out at you -- I had looked over the dress several times, and it wasn't until I was steaming the skirt that I found it. Once you know where it is, you'll see what I'm talking about. Old clothes like these make me happy that someone took the time to save them. Since this does have the flaws, the price is adjusted accordingly, and you get a lot of period perfect style for not much money.
