Square button with a lot of punch.

The endurance of dancers...whether those on stage, or those at our own core. This is a fat metallic black with a deep, dark blue core. Like a relic, the dancer emerges from a silver-gold metallic background.

This design stands up well against black and white geometric backgrounds.

Translucent Porcelain
Mixed Media

Porcelain is the nearest thing to glass...almost, but not quite. The colors glow.

Square buttons are a bit more unforgiving than round buttons and what makes translucent porcelain wonderful, also makes it harder to work with. I have to be careful of warping, watch out for neat corners, and be aware that every small action leaves a lasting imprint.

I fire these buttons draped over small forms. I did not want them to take on the flat, uninteresting shape of a kiln shelf. Each translucent porcelain button has some curving to it-- some a little more...some less; it makes the surface more dynamic.

Approximately 1-7/16"

Clean smooth and signed on the reverse.

Completed in one firing, reducing the fuel normally used to make ceramic items.

All of my buttons are individually handmade, without molds. There are subtle variations in shape, color and design, befitting handmade work.
