Sea Turtle Promenade Modern Reproduction Quilt.

I love the classic quilt blocks and I love portraying them in new ways. Sea Turtle Promenade is my interpretation of the classic curved Drunkard's Path Quilting Block. I added a little appliqué to the blocks to create the turtle heads and tails. The blocks are grouped in a circular arrangement to create the promenade.

The appliqués, blocks and the background's cotton fabrics are batiks. The border is pieced with an assortment of coordinated cotton prints and batiks in a curved irregular and angular pattern.

The quilt's gently curved edge is finished with piping, and a double fold binding that has been embellished with 230 corded loops.

I have custom long arm quilted this quilt with ditching, continuous curves and twists on the turtles, and concentric circles on the background to suggest rings of water and movement. An invisible thread has been used on the front and a blue thread on the quilt's back. The batting is cotton.

This quilt measures 68 inches by 68 inches. All of the fabric and the batting is cotton, so this quilt is washable in cold water by hand or machine on the gentle cycle. A hanging sleeve has been attached to the back, so that you may hang it, as this One of A Kind Quilt looks as great on the wall as it does over bed.

This classic popular curved quilting block historically is seen in ancient Roman mosaics. It appears in the 1880's in the US and is sometimes attached to both the Women's Temperate Movement and the Myth of the Underground Railroad.

Here are a few others' of the many names given to this quilt pattern:
Amish quilters called this design Solomon's Puzzle, Old Maid's Delima, and Endless trail. You may know this block pattern as Chinese Puzzle, Wanderer's Path in the Wilderness, or Rocky Road. And now another name, Sea Turtle Promenade.

Whether you are a collector, or If you are just looking for that unique gift , this modern reproduction quilt is full of artistry, color and history. Many hours went into the design, construction and quilting of this One of a Kind drunkard's path reproduction.
