Christmas Fern - Polystichum acrostichoides - is a native fern on the Eastern Northern American coast. It is called Christmas fern because its fronds are evergreen and have been used in traditional holiday decorating.

This fern is extremely common in woodlands around Philadelphia, but its evergreen nature makes it one of the few collectible plants in the winter months.

This is a listing for a real herbarium specimen. The plant you see is not a painting or a reproduction but is an actual pressed specimen that has been archivally mounted on herbarium rag paper (which is buffered to be pH neutral). I have antiqued the paper with walnut ink and hand lettered the scientific name across the bottom of the page.

Botanical prints framed in the home were a Victorian fad that is currently being revived. Why not jump on this trend with museum quality real pressed flowers?

Frequently asked questions about Ecobota

My real botanical specimens are mounted on herbarium paper sized 11.5 x 16.5 inches
I hand stain all of my papers with walnut ink to give a vintage look and feel to my specimens. The staining is not heavy handed and the background does not detract from the specimen on the page.

This does make the background unique on each piece, but they still work visually together in a collection.
