"Sundeep and Someone"

This portrait is one in a series of 5 hard-ground etchings which use texture, pattern and line to create works heavy in contrast, depicting everyday scenes with contrast a key feature. The face, hair and hands of the subject are rendered in high detail by building up layers of tiny dots and individual lines, whilst aspects of the surroundings and the rest of her body are depicted using a single line. Sugar-lift and aquatint are used to create the bold lines of the pattern and outlines.

Here a woman sits drinking a cup of warm tea, the table filled with the tea set and at the bottom of the image a glimpse of a second mug, the suggestion of a companion or the expectation of ones arrival.
