Signed Limited Edition Monkeynaut Linocut 2012 43/50

Cute astronaut monkey, floating in freefall, in space. No spaceship - just the galaxy.

1-Color: Speedball water-based Ink
Paper: Lenox Acid Free 100% rag
~ 12” x 9”

Also available in blue (though a different numbered edition)

I found inspiration for this image in an imagination game my 6-year-old daughter and I play. As she plays on playground monkeybars(!), she imagines we are in a ship floating adrift in space. We have a crew of astronaut monkeys aboard, who are bred and trained to spacewalk and fix mechanical issues outside the ship. The problem is that they are fairly mischievous, and prone to accidents. This particular monkey seems to have lost his grip on the ship momentarily. He is drifting past the forward viewscreen as we look on. Now we'll have to send out another monkey to retrieve him, and we're already running low on Monkeys. If only we'd purchased those additional Monkey Cybernetics(tm) upgrades to add the 4 extra limbs - he'd surely have kept his grip with at least ONE of those limbs. Oh well - we'll retrieve him and try to trade him out to another vessel once we reach port, and get one that's a bit less distract-able.

Hey! You look like you need a monkey!
Note: Photos (the first 4 images) are of this actual, specific print. The other image is of the lino block plate, used to make it. You can see the process is kind of like carving your own rubber stamp. Anyway: any artifacts or slight variations in the print itself as shown here will be there in the real thing. These marks are part of the printing process, created while painstakingly printing each print by hand, on a small hand press, in my own home studio. They are a big part of what makes each print unique. This one's number 45, out of a limited edition of 50 prints.

Note that this is the image that inspired the name of this Etsy shop. A number of monkeys have drifted by, but this was the one who truly lived up to the name.

This print would make a great picture for an adventurous little girl or boy's bedroom wall. One will probably grace the wall of my own infant son, sometimes himself referred to as "the monkey".

Also note - when I say it's a *signed* print, I am referring to the little Monkey sketch at bottom right. Each print gets a signature like that, each is slightly different therefore unique, and the expressions change a little. So in a sense, with your purchase you're getting (along with your print) a unique drawing from the artist's hand, for free! :-) WAY more fun than just signing with boring letters.

Feel free to send questions - I'll do my best to answer them asap.
