This listing is for a real museum quality herbarium specimen featuring Aconitum uncinatum (Southern Blue Monkshood or Wolfsbane). This is a beautiful little native plant. The vivid purple colors hold their hue when pressed and the leaves are deeply lobed which makes a more organic looking piece. And should you need to keep your werewolf friend in check, this is one of the plants brewed by Snape to keep Lupin from transforming in Harry Potter. It is also one of the most toxic plants known to man.

Framed Botanicals are a current decorating trend and have been showcased in Better Homes and Gardens and Martha Stewart Living as well as numerous design blogs. Often the botanicals are reproductions of Victorian paintings or illustrations but why have a piece of art that is a reproduction when you can have a real piece of preserved nature?

This botanical was wild collected in the Philadelphia area and pressed using traditional botany techniques. It was mounted on herbarium paper (which is made from a linen blend and pH neutral and acid free) using my own blend of botany paste for archival quality. I have antiqued the paper with a wash of walnut ink and have hand lettered the scientific name across the bottom of the paper like you would see in Victorian prints.

Size: 16.5in x 11.5in (roughly 42cm x 29cm)

Frequently asked questions about Ecobota

My real botanical specimens are mounted on herbarium paper sized 11.5 x 16.5 inches
I hand stain all of my papers with walnut ink to give a vintage look and feel to my specimens. The staining is not heavy handed and the background does not detract from the specimen on the page.

This does make the background unique on each piece, but they still work visually together in a collection.
