Hello! This listing is a Fleece Future for 1 lb of Navajo-Churro fleece from our ewe Mariah Carey. Mariah Carey is gorgeous ewe of pure white, and her fleece has incredible lustre. She is also a wonderful mother to her twin ewe lambs. Like many Navajo-Churro moms, Mariah's lambs are a completely different color, one black with a white belly and the other one black and white with panda like markings. Mariah Carey's wool has a wonderful drape, and it is true to double coated Navajo-Churro fashion with a soft undercoat and a long outer coat that is more suited to rug wool than next to skin garment wool. She is expected to have a 2+ lb fleece, and her fleece, as of Jul 29nd, 2012, is on average 3.5" long. It's a little longer in some places, a little shorter in others, but 3.5" is a good all around average. By shearing day, she should have a 4+ inch fleece.

So just how does a Fleece Future work? Well, it goes like this:

Our rare heritage breed Navajo-Churro sheep live happy lives and grow lots of gorgeous, premium double coated fleece in our clean fields and forests. I estimate how many lbs of fleece each sheep will produce, then subtract 2 from that number and list the remaining lbs as Fleece Futures. You can reserve first rights to buy this exact sheep's fleece by buying a $2.00 Fleece Future for each lb of fleece you may want.

Then, when shearing day rolls around, I send you a 1 oz sample of the fleece, and within 14 days of delivery confirmation, you can decide if you want to buy the whole pound, or just keep your sample. IF you do NOT convo me within that 14 day period, I will assume you do not want to redeem your reservation, and the fleece will be relisted on Etsy or passed on to our local waiting list. If you DO want your Fleece Future redeemed, you MUST contact me within the 14 days, and I will post your custom Fleece Future order to Etsy for consummation and confirmation.

The 1 oz sample of fleece is yours, no matter what, you bought it with your reservation fair and square. If you decide you do want to redeem your reservation, you may buy your fleece at $10.00 per pound for adult sheep, and $12.00 per pound for lambs fleece. Since Navajo-Churro wool is pretty low on the grease content, and we keep our sheep as clean as free range sheep can be, you really do get close to your full pound even after scouring and picking. Is that a killer deal or what?

We try to shear in the second week of August, but if we're having really nasty, wet weather, shearing gets put off until a dry week so that your fleece doesn't turn into felt prematurely. As soon as the shearer has done the flock, I'll ship you your 1 oz sample of raw fleece. While our fleeces do contain some vegetable matter from the sheep's natural, happy range life, we do skirt them and ensure that you are receiving a mostly clean, usable, not nasty-with-unmentionables fleece. Generally, our sheep are clean enough to be spun from the grease, although occasionally one will find fun in a spring and end up a little muddy around the legs and belly.

Want to reserve more than one lb? Just buy as many Fleece Futures as lbs that you think you'd want. You will STILL receive 1 oz of fleece sample for EACH Fleece Future you purchase. If you want to reserve a whole fleece, please convo me first to be sure that nobody else has already reserved part of that sheep's fleece, and I'll make you a special listing if at all possible.

Still have questions? Feel free to convo me at any time, and I'll break it down further for you. I'm new to Etsy, but I'm a long time seller on other internet auctions, and I can provide you with my user id's so you can check feedback.

Once again, this listing is for the FLEECE, not the sheep!
