Folk Art Fish Decoy Carved Wood and Metal Striped Bass, FD-12

This is a stylized folk art striped bass spearing decoy, species can be identified by field marks, but the paint scheme is not exactly like the live fish.

Hand carved from white pine, fins cut from recycled aluminum siding, screw eye line tie. Eyes are hand made from wood dowel and painted. This decoy is painted with acrylics and sealed with a water based fishing lure epoxy finish. https://www.etsy.com/listing/105572095/folk-art-fish-decoy-carved-wood-and

This is a fully functional working spearing decoy. It is weighted and balanced and has a nice slow swimming action with a good glide to it. It has a nice motion when the jig stick is worked.

Signed, numbered and dated on the bottom.

This spearing decoy measures 10" long, 6.5" wide fin tip to fin tip, and is 4.5" tall.

Fish decoys were (and still are in a few areas) used to lure pike and muskies under a hole cut in the ice so that they could be speared. Although most were made to resemble fish, they can take other shapes such as turtles, frogs, mice, ducks, and salamanders.
