"Snoozing Biped", 2012
Wood Fired Porcelain
2" long x 1.5" wide x 1" tall

This piece was woodfired in a traditional Japanese-style anagama kiln. The kiln was fed with wood every five to ten minutes until it reached temperatures of 2300 Fahrenheit over the course of five days. The flame and the ash of this process is what gives the piece its unique colorations and patterns. The biped's tiny wings are made from a very pure porcelain that stays pale throughout the firing.

The bipeds are a handful, despite their lack of hands. The flop and wriggle and twist. They snore, and make little grunty noises in their sleep. They have all the dignity of pugs walking on two legs, but with snozzles and tiny, vestigial wings.
