An elegant yet sexy, Victorian - modern vase / sculptural vessel that is my signature form. It does function –and very well I might add— as a vase (with the cinched waist and fanned opening), but is obviously quite stunning as a mantel sculpture or side-board decoration. Beautiful for use, or use just for beauty.

This piece is completely one-of-a-kind. I used no molds to make any part of the form or its details.

Clothing (Elizabethan to Couture) and metalworking are long time influences for me. This piece combines both of those interests, melding the architecture of 19th century corsetry with Art Nouveau silver, into one sexy ceramic form.

The main body of this vase is in a light blue-gray satin glaze. The details (the top edge and feet) and interior are in a glossy version of the same.

Dimensions: 9" h x 10.5" l x 7" d
Water-tight.

Despite its shape, I did throw this piece on the potters wheel. It is heavily altered and darted (a fabric term for cutting out one shape and mending the seam to create a new shape), giving it the hourglass and undulating form. The feet and lip are carved, handles are hand-formed, and surface includes various slip (liquid clay) decorating techniques (like cake-decorating).

A time-consuming piece for me to make, and a completely unique piece for you to enjoy.
