The Picture Book of Interesting Words is an ideal browsing book for children who already possess a basic reading vocabulary.

It does not pretend to define such common terms as could, cow, go, to, table, pillow, etc.--terms that are familiar to every boy or girl who has mastered the reading primer. This book assumes that the child understands these elementary basic words, and is ready to build a more varied vocabulary.

On the following pages are listed some 850 picturesque words boys and girls may have heard or read, but which they do not really comprehend. The purpose of this book is to define and explain in a clear, simple-to-understand way such colorful words as ambrosia, bastion, cutlass, eclipse, fez, frigate, hieroglyphic, incense, ju-jitsu, kaleidoscope, nectar, pagoda, stalactite, and wallaby.

More than 600 accurate illustration highlight the hundreds of terms contained in this book--ranging from abacus to zither. Included are portraits of all the Presidents of the United States, maps of the 50 states and the world's seven continents, as well as many instructive illustrations of autos, airplanes, cats, flowers, insects, and dozens of other categories.

The Picture Book of Interesting Words also includes a pronunciation key that tells the youngsters how to accent each word correctly. This will encourage young readers to add these new terms to their vocabulary in everyday conversation.

Above all this book is designed to stimulate boys and girls, eager to know more about the world around them, to consult more expanded and specialized publications.
