This bottle is thrown with stoneware clay, then I carve the image of the horse into the clay before it's completely dry. Later, when the clay is dry I inlay a black slip in the carved lines. The bottle is bisque fired then fired in a raku kiln to about 1800 degrees. I then remove it from the kiln and lay the horse hair onto the pot where it dances and burns because of the heat and causes the lines that you see here. My idea is to try to emulate the lines of the horse hair with the lines that I carve.
