My interest in the classical dances of India has found synthesis in a series of seven (7), acrylic on paper miniatures. These works, “Kathakali Dancers I – IV”, “Offering to Nataraj”, and “Nritya Dancers I and II”, explore Indian religious ceremony and ritual dance, wherein dancers impersonate various god and goddesses of the Hindu Pantheon. These dances typically reenact the stories of the Mahabharata, the Ramayana and the Puranas – India’s timeless epics of good combating evil.
