Original, beautifully detailed antique engraving of a gorilla family.

Gorillas are the largest of the living primates. They are ground-dwelling and predominantly herbivorous. They inhabit the forests of central Africa. Gorillas are divided into two species and either four or five subspecies. The DNA of gorillas is 98%–99% identical to that of a human, and they are the next closest living relatives to humans after the two chimpanzee species. Gorillas live in tropical or subtropical forests. Although their range covers a small percentage of Africa, gorillas cover a wide range of elevations. The Mountain Gorilla inhabits the Albertine Rift montane cloud forests of the Virunga Volcanoes, ranging in altitude from 2225 to 4267 m (7300-14000 ft). Lowland Gorillas live in dense forests and lowland swamps and marshes as low as sea level.

The size of the print: 9,8" x 6,7" (25 x 17 cm) including its border.
Published in Leipzig Germany 1900, as an illustration for "Brehm's Tierleben".

The print is in good condition and the paper shows its age with a creamy patina, perfect for framing.

Concerning the age of the paper - cca. 110 years - some spots can be occured on the margin and the reverse side, but these do not effect the quality of the print itself as it can be seen on the scan.

Please note, that by antique prints due to their age some imperfections are to be expected.
