'Ocean Motion' is a superb glass fishing float that instantly transports the senses to feel the immense power and mystery of the ocean. Old glass fishing floats, specifically 'fished' floats, offer all manner of unique personalities and of course, they've all done their time in the ocean. Yet they're as different as people! Notice how this wonderful glass fishing float changes coloration with the lighting - beautiful in bright as well as low light.

It's not every antique glass fishing float that emanates the character of the ocean itself. Ocean Motion is so full of 'wave and water' - that as a piece of natural glass art - it could not be closer to resembling the ocean itself. How to describe the amazing qualities of the superb antique glass? It's rich with complexity, character and 'movement' to the glass. In real time, far richer than the photos convey. This delightful hand blown collectible measures 3-1/2" diameter or 10-1/2" in circumference. Collectors often refer to this as 'base ball' size, for easy reference.

The immense 'movement' in the glass includes a 'galaxy' of bubbling in all types and sizes: Champagne type bubbling, foamy bubbles, rain drops, tear drops, 'space windows', and some huge 'comets'! One side of the top shows an elongated, stretched bubble in the shape of a graceful whale. (Believe it!) I also see seven or eight reverse 'ghost net' pattern markings on one side where sand-blasting left its imprints, adding a hint of deep mystery.

In photo #4, note the striking 'line' near the top slightly to the right, this is what I call a 'geometric drag line'. This is a deep striated 'line' in the glass (they come in many different geometrical shapes, in this case a straight 'line') caused by a sharp object that was dragged through the surface glass as the float was being blown. The object may be a piece of unmelted sharp glass, a tiny rock or other hard, sharp material that leaves its impression, yet the glass is fully intact. The object eventually imbeds itself within the glass, or falls off. Such an anomaly, including the mark can be a good opportunity to make a wish! Why not? We could all use more good wishes and an old glass fishing float is above all, an object of good fortune and prosperity.

The seal 'button' is in terrific condition. The glass is nice and thick, well proportioned throughout. It has been masterfully formed into an oval shape and shows very good placement. The surface of the seal shows an interesting 'swirled' or circular type texture in areas. This is not under the seal, as swirling that may be in the body of glass itself. It must actually have been part of the sealing iron and indicates the work of a master craftsman. Very lovely, the texture can actually be felt with a finger tip.

The surround edge is in MINT condition, showing no chips, no nicks or grazing! Stamped on the edge in one spot is an Arabic numeral '1' with a cross bar at its base. Nice, as often these are lopped off, or sort of disappear off the edge, morphing into warm glass, or into the atmosphere! Arabic numerals were commonly used, generally '1' through '6' with the occasional use of less common numbers. If the number '1' has special meaning for you, a friend or loved one, this might make a 'forever' gift. Or gift yourself and make a special wish upon this excellent, delightful and highly collectible artifact.
