A bright yellow dot punctuates the center of these white china dinner plates made by Rosenthal, of mid century vintage. Set of 4 large size dinner plates, the pattern name is Punctal. Clean and modern design from the 60s, 70s mod Panton Era.

Diameter: 10 1/4" (26.035 cm)
Height: 1 1/4" (3.175 cm)

The plate design is a coupe form with a generously upturned outer edge, made of fine white porcelain china. The fired on yellow dot is the color of an egg yolk.

Rosenthal is well known for their history of collaborating with artists and designers to produce their porcelain goods, but I could not find a designer name listed for this particular pattern (Punctal) or dinnerware shape.

I also couldn't find much on the word "Punctal" when I searched, and kept getting referred to the latin word punctum or it's plural, puncta. But the meaning for punctum seems completely fitting for this design... "a point", "a dot", "a particular spot, place, or moment", " the significant or essential element: come to the point".

The glaze is clean and glossy throughout, with the exception of the condition specifics described below. The plates have been priced accordingly. If these small flaws do not seem fitting for dining, the plates make a great wall display.

Two of the plates have 1 tiny (1/32" - 1/16", 1 mm - 1.5875 mm) flea bite each along one edge. The yellow dot has slightly uneven surface color not from wear, but possibly from being washed in a dishwasher (which should never be done to fine china). There are several longer scratches 1/4" - 1/2" (1.27 cm - 2.54"). The plate fronts have some spots of rubbed surface wear that appear like a series of little scratches on top of each other that occur on specific small areas. One of the plates is relatively free of this rubbing. The other 3 plates have about 3 or 4 each of these small scratched areas. These small areas measure typically about 1/8" (3.175 mm) diameter, with several being about 1/8" x 1/4" to 1/8" x 1/2" (3.175 mm x 6.35 mm to 3.175 mm x 12.7 mm).

The last photo shows all 4 dinner plates on the left, with the size relationship between the dessert plate to the dinner plate shown on the right.
