Agate beads have been etched in this way for about 4,000 years but this is modern. The white lines are made by making a paste out of a certain herb and I'm sorry I cannot remember which! The paste is painted onto the stone bead and then the bead is heated and the lines appear for ever. This bead is so smooth and lovely. I am very fond of Giraffes and search for this kind of bead.
