Mushrooms grow in poop, completed cross stitch with orange and green mushrooms in 3" round embroidery hoop

---The Story---

Fact: Most plants grow, at least indirectly, in poop.

I mean, there's a lot of poop in the world, and when you call it "manure," that's not so shocking. It's fertilizer! It's necessary. Besides, WE weren't using it for anything helpful.

But mushrooms -- they're different. They grow in substrate, often prepared with horse manure (or manure from other grass-fed animals like cows) and seeded with urine pellets and a ton of other things; then, rather than having seeds planted like normal plants, mushroom "spawn" are created in sterile laboratories and then shipped out to mushroom farms where they are SPRAYED ONTO the substrate to grow.

The sheer weirdness of that makes it seem more reasonable that they so frequently come packaged in those weird blue styrofoam containers.

I originally created "Mushrooms grow in horse pee" to help friends who hated mushrooms explain to pushy friends why they weren't morally obligated to eat mushrooms (see The Links below for that design). But maybe we, the mushroom lovers, also need a reminder that mushrooms are okay.

They may grow in "substrate" and be sprayed on, but in the end, they're grown in poop, just like every other plant.

And that...should...comfort us...?

(Sure. Let's go with that.)

---The Deets---

This listing is for one completed cross stitch of an orange mushroom and a green mushroom, each with yellow spots, and the saying "mushrooms grow in poop" in dark brown text, framed in a 3" natural wood embroidery hoop.

*CUSTOMIZE: Request a different color combo for your mushrooms if you like via convo or in your purchase order notes. The more specific you can be with your desired color scheme, the better!

*SHIP: Each cross stitch will be made to order and shipped via USPS first class with delivery confirmation or international first class, exactly as pictured to anywhere in the world, within 2 weeks of your order (usually sooner), unless specified otherwise in my shop policies, shop banner or announcements (under the banner).

If you need it sooner, let me know and we'll see what I can do!

*GIFT WRAP: If you'd like to have this gift-wrapped, please convo me or include it in the purchase order note, and I will wrap the stitch in plain paper with a stitched card for you to put your "to" and "from" on -- or tell me who it's going to, and I can write it in on your behalf.

---The Legal Stuff---

Of course, I'm not a mushroom expert, and anything I know about them was learned 1. though watching that one episode of "Dirty Jobs" or 2. through cursory internet research or 3. eating them (that's mostly just "what they taste like" knowledge, not "how they're grown" knowledge).

This design and the others pictured are copyright Alicia Watkins 2012 (and 2011 for the "pee" one). Do not copy them -- this pattern, the larger one also pictured, and a third one are available for purchase all together in my shop. See "The Links" above!

Please also do not pin images without my permission. Convo me! : )
