I originally created this headdress for my boyfriend, whose totem is a Brown Bear. Since finding brown bear skins within a reasonable price range is highly difficult, this cinnamon-colored black bear was the next best thing. Now that I have managed to find a brown bear, we're passing this guy on in order to fund the project.

Cinnamon coloration in black bears is rather uncommon, and makes for a unique-looking animal which is often confused for a grizzly. Indeed, the hair on this pelt does have a nice grizzled appearance with mildly-frosted tips along the back and sides. It's reddish-brown in apperence with some mahogany and golden undertones. The snout is a lovely shade of cream.

Head has been fully mounted on a professional taxidermy form and red-brown glass eyes were used to give it a lifelike look. It doesn't have claws, but the legskins are in-tact, though the front left side did require a patch job which is only noticeable from the underside of pelt where I had to re-enforce it with buckskin.

This was a bear taken in Colorado in the early 1950s, and it had been sitting in a box in a local woman's attic for some time before she sold it to me. I wasn't sure if the head would be mountable, but was pleasantly surprised by the finished result. This was my first bear, and while it's not perfect, I am proud of the calm and thoughtful expression the bear seems to hold. This is a perfect skin for anyone who embodies bear totem.

Straps are located on the underside of the head, and on the shoulders of the bear, since the pelt is rather big and heavy. It makes for a really cool dance skin or robe, and can even double as a rug for the log home or cabin.

Measures between 5' and 6' long and around 5' wide.

Last photo shows the hide before it was mounted. :)

PLEASE NOTE THAT BEARS CANNOT BE SHIPPED TO CERTAIN STATES. It is up to you to know whether or not bears are legal to own in your area. Please contact your local Fish and Wildlife Department before purchase if you are not sure.
