The Pantheon was originally built as a church dedicated to St. Genevieve by architect, Jacques-Germain Soufflot, under the orders of Louis XV. Its facade is modelled after the Pantheon in Rome and the dome resembles Bramante's Tempietto. During the French Revolution its function was changed from church to a mausoleum.
